As a tech support enginner I always wonder if there's gonna be a really stable operating system to come soon. Everytime a new operating system from Microsoft is released, everybody seems to be in a hurry to be the first of their group of friends or coworkers to use it. But to me is different, I have always waited until someone who install it and use it for a while changes his face from happiness to disappointment.
I have seen this when Microsoft released Windows 95, NT, ME and Vista. My question is: is that going to happen with windows 7?. According to the articles I've just read, it promises to be stable, lighter, more efficient and with less bugs. This time there's not much hope that this one is gonna make me change my mind. Let me telll you why. At my current job, I have more than 135 desktop computers, almost half of them are running Windows 2000 and the rest have Windows XP and just a few have Windows Vista. It takes me longer to repair them in the inverse order that I mentioned them. Why?. well, I think it's because new operating systems are so buggy that we have to wait some months or even years until critical updates are released to fix them. Service packs along with all their updates come to save my life when everthing seems lost. I really hate seing the circular cursor spinning for a while just to end up with the famous message "The program .... stopped responding". Youmust know the rest of the story when this happens,, that really leads to frustration as a tech support guy. Based on all this, I don't feel motivated to try Windows 7. I know I have to give it a try and get to know it ,but it will take me some time to trust before I load it on my machines.
